Phillips Family Heritage
William Phillips was a farmer in Hay-on-Wye, Wales before immigrating to Canada in 1907 at the age of 60. Later that year, his son William Henry Phillips Jr. born in 1891, at the age of 16 made the same trip. William Jr. travelled alone with a horse and buggy, a significant undertaking for a young man. They both arrived in Halifax and made their own way eventually meeting up in Russell, Manitoba. Together, they journeyed westward and settled near Veregin, Saskatchewan.
Unfortunately, their stay in Veregin was short-lived as a fire destroyed their home and all of their belongings. William Jr. then relocated to the Pathlow, Flett’s Springs area southwest of Melfort, where he farmed for several years. It was here that he met the love of his life, Sarah Ann Phillips and they went on to have five children, including Wallace Phillips born in 1932.
In 1933, the family moved to the Lenvale district, part of the surrounding Melfort community, where they purchased three quarters of land. Wallace, also known as Wally, continued farming in this area and went on to meet his loving wife, Yvonne Phillips. They had three children, Terry, Belinda and Gregg. Gregg Phillips, born in 1962, followed in his father’s footsteps and began farming the same land.
Gregg has three children, Ryan, Riley and Chantal. Both Riley and Chantal have remained in the farming industry, thus continuing the Croft Farms legacy into the next generation.
In loving memory of Wallace Arthur Phillips (1932 – 2021)
